Walk before you RUN!

I have recently become slightly obsessed with running. I'm still not sure what the fixation with it is, but I'm starting to understand those nuts that want to get up before the sun is even out and run miles and miles because it makes they claim it feels so "great".

Almost three years ago my hubby and I were getting ready for our second cruise to somewhere tropical, and I really needed to get back in the gym to get ready for putting on a bikini again. I really detest working out with weights, so I decided I would give the "Couch to 5K" a try. I really wasn't trying to train to run a 5K, I just wanted to try and learn how to run.

I have never been a runner, because quite frankly....I'm pretty lazy. Yep, just plain lazy. But a friend/coworker of mine had done the training program and said she really enjoyed it so I decided to give it a try. Needless to say, I was so pleasantly surprised. I had not been working out at all prior to starting the training, so saying that I literally started from off the couch, was pretty accurate.

The program worked so great for me! I highly recommend trying it out if you aspire to start running, want to lose some weight or have a goal of running a 5K.

Now that was almost 3 years ago, and I'd like to say I've continued to run those 3.1 miles that I learned how to run doing the program, but I definitely have not.

So about a month ago I made the decision to finally get back to eating healthy, and working out again..... making the decision is the first step, right? (literally laughing out loud right now...) Nope! Not at all! Although, I haven't fully gotten back on the wagon regarding my food choices, I have been working out and most importantly...RUNNING!

I started this class called Body Back a few weeks ago, which was a pretty cool class! But I've really been wanting to get back into running, so it just so happens the girl that teaches that class is running a 10K in about two months and wanted to start training for that, so I jumped into training with her doing the "couch to 10k" or something of that sort...

So far its been really great. I've definitely noticed a difference in my endurance just running with her once a week, so I upped  it to 3x a week now. I think this week is a 5:1 ratio (run/walk) 8x's. Its pretty tough but in all honesty, if I can do this....ANYONE can. I promise.

So here's to getting healthy and getting back into running!

I'm going to start the 5:1 ratio tonight on my treadmill- only because I won't have time to get outside before dark to run. I'll definitely keep anyone posted who is curious about how its going! If you want to try and jump into it with me, then let's go! And if you'd like to start with a little less, I would reccomend starting at a 2:1 ratio. Try that about 6 times and see how you do! I bet you can do a lot more than you thought :)
